FAQ
Questions homeowners ask before working with us
What Projet GH does, what it deliberately does not do, and where the limits of independent consulting sit. If your question is not here, ask it directly.
Is Projet GH a general contractor?
No. Projet GH is an independent construction and renovation consulting practice. It advises homeowners on their projects and does not hold itself out as a contractor of any kind.
Does Projet GH perform construction work?
No. Projet GH does not perform, subcontract or supervise construction work, and does not manage job sites. The service is analysis and advice: reviewing documents, guiding budgets and explaining scope so you can make informed decisions.
Can you tell me exactly how much my renovation should cost?
No — no one honestly can before the work is priced and the conditions are known. What Projet GH provides is a planning range based on your scope, finish level and property, along with the specific factors most likely to move that number. It is guidance for planning, not a quote.
Can you review a contractor estimate?
Yes. That is one of the most requested services. The quote is read line by line — scope, pricing structure, materials, allowances, exclusions and payment terms — and you receive a plain-language summary of what it covers, what appears to be missing, and the questions worth asking before you sign.
Can you compare multiple contractor estimates?
Yes. Quotes are normalized against a single scope so the comparison is meaningful. Two quotes rarely describe the same work, and the real difference between them is usually found in exclusions and allowances rather than in the totals.
Can you help me find contractors?
Depending on your location and the type of project, some assistance may be available in identifying companies to contact. This is not a referral service, an endorsement or a vetting process: Projet GH does not verify, recommend or stand behind any contractor, and every hiring decision remains entirely yours.
Do you guarantee contractor work?
No. Projet GH has no contractual relationship with the contractors you hire and no control over how the work is performed. Guarantees, warranties and recourse come from your contract with the contractor and from the applicable legal and regulatory framework.
Can you help before I contact contractors?
Yes, and this is often the ideal moment. Clarifying the scope, the budget range and the sequence before requesting quotes tends to produce more consistent quotes and fewer surprises later. It is also the least expensive point in a project to change your mind.
Can you help after construction has started?
Potentially, depending on the issue. Change orders, scope disputes, unexpected costs and quality questions can all be reviewed. What is possible depends on the documents available and how far the work has progressed, so describe the situation and you will get a straight answer about whether a review would help.
Do you provide engineering advice?
No. Projet GH does not provide engineering services or structural opinions. Where a project raises structural, geotechnical or other regulated technical questions, Projet GH may recommend that you consult an appropriately qualified professional for that specific matter.
Do you provide legal advice?
No. Contract interpretation, disputes, warranty claims and recourse are legal matters. Projet GH can explain what a document appears to say in practical terms, but for legal advice you should consult a qualified legal professional.
What areas do you serve?
Montreal, Laval, the North Shore (Rive-Nord), the South Shore (Rive-Sud) and Greater Montreal. Other areas of Quebec may be served depending on the project and the type of consultation — ask and you will get a clear answer.
How long does a consultation take?
It depends on the scope and on how many documents there are to read. A focused question on a single quote is a shorter engagement than a full renovation plan with three quotes to normalize. The expected scope is confirmed with you before any work begins.
In what language can I be served?
In French or in English, whichever you prefer. Documents can be reviewed in either language, and the written summary is provided in the language you choose.
What documents should I send?
Whatever you have: contractor quotes, estimates, plans, sketches, inspection reports and photos of the existing space. Nothing is mandatory. If all you have is an idea and a budget range, that is a valid starting point for a consultation.
Are my documents kept private?
Yes. Documents you upload are stored privately, are used only to advise you on your project, and are never published, sold or shared publicly. Details are set out in the privacy policy.
Do you visit the property?
Consultations are generally conducted remotely, by phone or video, working from your documents and photos. Whether an on-site component is possible or useful for your specific project can be discussed at intake.
What does a consultation cost?
Pricing depends on the type of engagement — a single quote review is not the same work as a full planning consultation with several documents. The scope and the fee are confirmed with you before anything begins, so there is no open-ended commitment.
I only have one quote. Is that enough to work with?
Yes. A single quote can be reviewed on its own — what it includes, what it excludes, how it is structured and what it commits you to. In many cases the review itself makes clear whether a second quote would be worth requesting.
Will this create a conflict with my contractor?
It should not. The output is a clearer document and a set of specific, neutral questions — the kind of thing an organized client asks. Most construction professionals would rather answer precise questions before the work starts than resolve misunderstandings after it.
Still have a question?
Send it over. A short answer costs nothing and is often enough.
